Psalm 127:3-5 Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? The fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior’s
fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children!

Psalm 128:2-4 Enjoy the blessing! Revel in the goodness! Your wife will bear children as a vine bears grapes, your

Safe Adoption States for Adoptive Couples

We typically recommend states that are considered “safe states” for adoptive parents in which the laws are in favor of the adoptive couple. The birth mother usually signs consent to relinquish her parental rights within 24-48 hours after birth and she can not revoke her consent after she signs. This is a wonderful comfort to adoptive families because you do not have to be concerned with a waiting period in which she could change her mind and decide to parent.

What does that adoption term mean??

Consent, Revocation, Finalization???? What Does It All Mean?
A lot of the fear surrounding adoption is in regards to the lack of understanding of these three important adoption vocabulary words. We hope with a little "Adoption Vocabulary 101," we can demystify some of it for you!

Consent: Consent refers to the agreement by a parent, or a person or agency acting in place of a parent, to relinquish the child for adoption and to release all rights and duties with respect to that child. In most States, the consent must be in writing and either witnessed and notarized or executed before a judge or other designated official.

Revocation: The revocation period refers to the length of time the birth mother or father has to change their mind after signing consent.

Finalization: Finalization hearings usually take place within a year of the time the child is placed in the home. Your adoption is not legally complete until you have gone through the finalization process. Prior to finalization, post-placement visits are required to be preformed by the social worker who initially completed the home study. The court will seek to establish that the child has been placed in a loving, secure home. You should be prepared to present all information included in your adoption petition, and to answer questions about why you want to adopt, how you will care for your child, how your family is and will continue adjusting, and anything else the court feels is relevant. When the judge signs the adoption order, you gain permanent, legal custody of your child! Finalization is the last formal step of the adoption process, but just the beginning of your new family.

Variations in Law from State to State: The important thing to remember is that adoption law varies from state to state. The time period in which consent is signed varies from state to state. Revocation periods do not exists in all states. There are states where consent is irrevocable at the time of signing. The length of time before finalization also varies from state to state, from as little as a few days to as long as a year.

If you have been considering adoption but don't think it is possible allow us to encourage you...it is! We believe that if God has put the desire in your heart to adopt then you should pursue it. As with anything in life knowing how to get something accomplished helps actually make it a reality. We recommend using someone that can help you along in your adoption journey. An adoption consultant is someone that can help you with this. Make sure when you are looking for an adoption consultant that they have adopted before. It is wise to use someone that has been there before and experienced all of the hurdles that can come through adoption. But remember, adoption is possible, don't give up. If you are supposed to be an adoptive parent you will, just as long as you don't give up!

The need is Great

When many people think about adoption they think adopting internationally because of the need. But the reality is that there is a need for people to adopt newborns in the US. We have agencies contact us all the time and say they need families for African-American situations or Bi-Racial situations that are clean (this means there are no drug exp, birth father issues, the birth mother is taking care of herself, etc). With so many people wanting to adopt a baby in the US why is there such a need? From the people we speak with that are wanting to adopt they don't realize the need. The reality is that there are many babies in the US that need great homes and that is one of the reasons we focus on domestic adoptions. It is our belief that adoption is opening your heart up to God. God places the desire to adopt in people and in turn they react. Is there a need to adopt internationally? Yes. But there is also a need to adopt domestically. God does great things through adoption and he desires to see families grow through this gift and being adoptive parents we understand that this is at the heart of God.

Max, our second child, was considered a hard to place situation for various reasons. We got the call from the agency that they had a baby born in the hospital and did not have any families for him. They were looking for a family so he would not go in to state custody. Max is now six months old and healthy. When we look at him we can't believe that the agency could not find a family for this baby. When we got to the hospital he was four days old and did not have a name. We can't imagine our family being a family without Max, this baby that they could not find a home for.

The need is Great in the US for people to adopt newborn babies before they enter the foster care system. Don't let people tell you that you can't adopt a newborn in the US quickly. We know from adopting two babies...you can!

12.6.08 - Waiting for a call to find out if we are chosen - between us and another family
12.6.08 4:30 p.m. - Get the call. We are chosen! Pack in 4 hours and get in the car to drive through the night to FL.
12.7.08 - Arrive in FL. Go to hospital and meet our birthmother and Nora. Nora comes home with us that night.

John and Tracie Loux are in the process of adopting a little boy named Aiden from Eastern Europe. Tracie and John are former CAC (Christian Adoption Consultants) clients and now Tracie works with us as an adoption consultant. Aiden has Down Syndrome and will be 3 in March. We are excited to welcome him into our CAC family. The Loux’s are currently raising finances to help pay the cost of adoption. They are still in need of $18,000, and are trusting God for total provision.

If you would like to help support their adoption, they are currently having a fundraiser called ART FOR ADOPTION.
They are currently selling photographs and will be listing some original paintings and other artwork soon.

TV Appearance!

Believe it or not someone wants to interview us on TV. The show is called "Everyday with Marcus and Lisa" on FamilyNet. The network is on 200 markets across the US. If you have comcast it is channel 297. All of the family is going to be interviewed! We are going to be talking about our adoption story, how you can adopt and what God is doing in the US through the gift of adoption. If you have tome and can find it check it out. It starts at 11 AM EST tomorrow (11/17/08). It is a LIVE show so pray for us - we will have the kids with us and there is no telling what McKenna might say!

Been Busy

We have been busy this past week. We went to FL for Max's (our second adopted child) finalization. We saw the Judge Wednesday and everything went great! We stayed on the beach. I told Max that he did great picking the beach to be his birthplace!

Family Update

We've been incredibly busy lately with a new baby and some exciting news that I will be able to announce shortly. Max has been a complete joy and we're so excited to finalize his adoption in a couple of weeks. We have a finalization party and McKenna's birthday party planned to take place on the beach in Florida on Treasure Island. We stayed there when we adopted Maxwell and it was amazing. We're excited to return and celebrate our children. They are a totally blessing and I thank God for bringing them into our lives!! Adoption is so near and dear to us and we can't imagine doing anything else for our lives work and ministry! Adoption is at the heart of God which is where I want to be!!
